Our facilitated LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® service offering is nearly here!
Mention LEGO® to anyone and it evokes childhood memories of free-play and imagination. Now consider the possibility of using the LEGO® Serious Play® method to solve business challenges, build teams and develop strategy. It’s like a universal language that can be applied to the business world to unleash creativity and collaboration. The approach enables participants to think 3-dimensionally through the use of their hands and have inclusive and honest conversations as they build models together.
Having spent an intense and fascinating few days in the home of LEGO® in Legoland Denmark, with the wonderful Katie da Gama, I am delighted to share that we are certified facilitators of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) method. Last week really was an experience, with lots of fun and challenging experiential learning sandwiched between two chaotic transfers in Schipol Airport – one far too short and one far too long! In between however, we had a learning experience of a life-time!
Benefits of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method:
- Hands-on learning: so I expected that this would be the most interesting part of the learning process, but I genuinely had not anticipated the difference between just thinking and thinking while modelling. I certainly got into a flow state each and every time I built a model I was curious to see what would emerge.
- Fosters Creative Thinking: even for those of us who would not consider ourselves the most creative in the world, we found a way to create outputs that were meaningful and insightful and dare I say it, actually creative. We took photos every step of the way and looking back we can reflect on what each and every item on our models meant. Many took great care to pick the right outfits and hair for the mini-figures in their stories and equally many picked animals or other objects as metaphors.
- Curiosity: Everything was laden with meaning and we were encouraged to use our curiosity to understand what that meaning was. It is a fantastic tool to use to cultivate curiosity and hear others’ perspectives.
- Collaboration and Inclusivity: Everyone has a voice with the LSP method. Models are built individually, shared and combined to create current and future models of teams, visions, strategies or whatever it may be that the focus is of the work at that time. It provides the opportunity to hear everyone’s view of the current situation and potential future that lies ahead.
- Process-led: thankfully for someone like me who likes process, there is a very clear method when using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® approach. The method guides us through the steps, whilst encouraging creativity to emerge as we go along. During the week, we built models which looked at us, our teams, our businesses, from our own and others perspectives as well as models which envisaged what each of those could be in the future and bridges to show the way.
- Adaptability: the LEGO® Serious Play® method can be applied to so many situations and topics, from painting a vision for a team/ organisation/ culture to team development and more. We can also adapt it to the different needs of clients.
- Fun: LEGO® is fun, so whether you are 5 or 50, LEGO® evokes a sense of excitement and energy. This leads to greater levels of motivation and curiosity in the both the process and the outputs.
We would be excited to work with progressive organisations who are interested in strategic development work or team development through creating a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® model of their current and desired future state. If you are interested in hearing more about the benefits of using this innovative approach as well as our offering, do let me know.
Also, in the short term, as we refine our offering, we are looking to work (on a complimentary basis) with one or two organisations to build some case studies. If you are about to embark on some team or strategy development and you are curious how the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology would work, this could be you! Please get in touch for an exploratory conversation.
All we are missing now are the bricks and they are on the way…
Looking forward to lots of fun, creativity and learning,
Eadine
